Shooting At Ex-Girlfriend Leads To Indictment Against Tampa Man

A 29-year-old Tampa man has been indicted after being accused of firing seven shots at his ex-girlfriend.

TAMPA, FL — A 29-year-old Tampa man has been indicted for unlawful possession of a firearm after being accused of firing seven shots at his ex-girlfriend in Sulphur Springs.

According to statements made in open court, on July 9, near the intersection of North Nebraska Avenue and East Fairbanks Street in Sulphur Springs, Thaddeus Timeaus Howard fired a pistol at his former girlfriend. Surveillance video played during Howard’s arraignment showed Howard firing the gun and then getting into his vehicle and chasing his ex-girlfriend who fled in a car driven by her cousin.

The chase ended when Howard caused a multi-vehicle accident near the intersection of North Nebraska Avenue and East Broad Street after swerving in and out of oncoming traffic.

According to the indictment, Howard fled the scene of that crash on foot and was apprehended by Tampa police officers who found the pistol on Howard.

At the time of the shooting, police said Howard had prior felony convictions for armed robbery and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. Federal law prohibits felons from possessing firearms or ammunition.

If convicted, Howard faces a maximum penalty of 10 years in federal prison.
