2 Dead In Small Plane Crash On U.S. 301: Hillsborough Sheriff

TAMPA, FL — Two people were killed Thursday morning when a small plane crashed on U.S. 301, the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office said in a news release.

The call for the crash, at Maislin Drive in the East Lake-Orient Park area, came in just before 8:30 a.m.

Deputies who first arrived at the scene found the plane “fully engulfed in flames,” the sheriff’s office said.

Hillsborough County Fire Rescue arrived shortly after and extinguished the fire.

The investigation has been turned over to the National Transportation Safety Board and the Federal Aviation Administration, HCSO said.
