Stormy Weekend on the Way

The Tampa Bay area's sunshine streak is about to end.

Those long days of beautiful sunshine the Tampa Bay area has enjoyed over the past week or so are about to come to an end.

While the National Weather Service is predicting a sunny Friday with a high around 78 and lows in the upper 50s, the mild weather streak is expected to falter. Saturday brings a 20 percent chance for thunderstorms during the daytime hours with a high around 78 anticipated. Overnight, however, things begin to change as rain chances rise to about 70 percent. The overnight low should fall to about 60.

Sunday’s weather isn’t expected to be much better with a 60 percent chance for showers in the cards. Highs that day should climb only to about 73. Conditions begin to clear Sunday night with a low expected to drop down to about the mid-50s.

While the weekend is expected to bring storms, the workweek is shaping up to be a nice one. Monday arrives with very low chances of rain and a high around 75.

As storms move into the area, the weather service has issued a rip current warning for Tampa Bay area waters, as well. Beachgoers will want to keep an eye out for rough waters.
