AT&T Boosts Mobile Coverage at AMALIE Arena

A new AT&T antenna system will boost LTE capacity by nearly 400% in the arena compared to last year.

At AMALIE Arena in Tampa, AT&T recently deployed a new enhanced wireless system empowered by Matsing Lens Antenna solution. The new Distributed Antenna System (DAS) will boost LTE capacity by nearly 400% in the arena compared to last year.

The Luneburg lens, or “Giant Eyeball” antenna design is a first of its kind and features some of the best radio frequency signal control in the industry. The new system will provide greater flexibility to accommodate any seating configuration and improve signal quality in the most difficult areas within the arena.

More than 362 antennas hidden throughout the arena will help manage heavy wireless traffic. So when fans grab their smartphones to share the most exciting plays from any game, they’ll enjoy a faster, more reliable connection.

A DAS is made of numerous, small antennas that distribute AT&T wireless network coverage to provide extra cellular capacity and shorten the distance a call or text must travel. Simply put—calls, texts and posts are less likely to get stuck in a cellular “traffic jam.”

The spherical lens provides unique technology that allows 18 beams of radio frequencies to more precisely cover the crowd and provide the best possible customer experience. With this deployment, the arena will be well positioned for rolling out 5G/5GNR technologies as they become available. Amalie Arena will serve as a premier venue with state-of-the-art wireless service.
