Tampa Bay, FL — Tampa Bay area residents tired of steamy temperatures might want to stick close to their air conditioners as the workweek progresses.

According to the National Weather Service, the region is in for high temperatures in the 90-degree range throughout much of the week. Thunderstorms are also a prospect each day this week.

Monday kicks things off with a high around 91 degrees anticipated in much of the Bay area. There’s a 40 percent chance of thunderstorms, mainly after 11 a.m. Storm chances continue into the evening hours when the low temperature should drop to the mid-70s.

Tuesday is expected to deliver a high again around 90 degrees. A 30 percent chance of thunderstorms moves in during the afternoon hours and sticks around into the evening when the low should fall into the upper-70s.

More thunderstorm chances are in the cards on Wednesday, with storms expected to arrive after 8 a.m. The day’s high should once again reach the 90-degree range. Overnight, storm chances continue with a low in the upper 70s anticipated.

Scattered showers and thunderstorms are in the cards again for both Thursday and Friday. Forecasters say there’s about a 40 percent chance for storms both days. High temperatures are expected to reach the upper 80s to low 90s both days with nighttime lows in the upper 70s.

Severe weather isn’t anticipated in the week ahead, but forecasters do warn that thunderstorms may produce locally heavy rain, strong winds and the potential for dangerous lightning strikes. Rip current risks at Tampa Bay area beaches are expected to rise as the week progresses.
