Tampa Bay Weekend Weather: 'Thunderstorms Likely'

TAMPA, FL — Tampa Bay area residents with big outdoor plans over the weekend might want to keep an eye on the skies.

The National Weather Service is forecasting a bit of a bumpy ride ahead. The good news is that Friday is expected to kick things off with partly sunny conditions and a high in the mid-80s. Overnight, folks can expect a low in the low 70s in much of the Tampa Bay area, but patchy fog is also in the cards, forecasters say.

Saturday is anticipated to bring a 70 percent chance storms with it and also a return of patchy fog in the early morning hours. Forecasters say thunderstorms are “likely” heading into the afternoon and evening hours. While the day’s high is expected to only reach the low 80s, forecasters warned in Friday's Hazardous Weather Outlook report that “there is a marginal risk for severe weather, generally from around the Tampa Bay area northward.” Locally heavy rain, strong winds and lightning are all possibilities. The overnight low Saturday is expected to drop into the low 60s.

Sunday brings a 10 percent chance of storms during the daytime hours with thunderstorms again possible. The good news is things are expected to clear out during the day with sunny conditions anticipated after the storms move on. The high is expected to only reach the mid-70s with a low in the upper 50s.

Monday is anticipated to shape up with sunny conditions and a high in the upper 70s. The overnight low is forecast around 60 degrees in much of the region.
