Tampa International Airport To Close As Idalia Approaches FL

Tampa International Airport will shut down all commercial flights at 12 a.m. Tuesday as the storm nears landfall, the airport said.

TAMPA, FL — Tampa International Airport commercial operations will be entirely shut down beginning at 12 a.m. Tuesday as Tropical Storm Idalia picks up steam and heads toward Florida, the airport announced in a news release Monday.

Though some private and cargo flights will continue overnight, all air traffic will be halted by 7 a.m. Tuesday, according to officials.

The airport will remain closed until "it can assess any damages later in the week," though it anticipates reopening Thursday morning, officials said.

Tampa International Airport is not equipped to be used as a shelter, according to officials.

Sarasota Bradenton International Airport is currently open and operating as normal, the airport said on its own social media.
