Tampa Man Charged With DUI Manslaughter After 25-Year-Old Woman Killed

HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY, FL — The Florida Highway Patrol has arrested and charged a Tampa man with driving under the influence, causing a death, in connection with a crash Tuesday on Interstate 75.
Michael Troy Jones, 31, of Tampa, was charged with DUI manslaughter and DUI serious injuries.
According to troopers, around 10 a.m., Jones was driving a Honda Accord north on I-75 at a high speed when he overtook and struck a 25-year-old Zephyrhills man in a Chevy Cruz traveling in the same direction. The impact caused the Chevy Cruz to rotate into the median where it struck a tree.

The Honda Accord rotated to the outside shoulder where it struck a light pole.
Following the crash, a car driven by a 53-year-old Tampa woman struck both the Accord and the Chevy Cruz.

A 25-year-old Zephyrhills woman riding in the Chevy Cruz died at the scene. The driver of the Chevy Cruz suffered serious injuries. All other involved in the accident received minor injuries.
