Tampa Motorcyclist Critical After I-75 Crash

The wreck happened Thursday evening near the merge lane to the Lee Roy Selmon Expressway.

TAMPA, FL — A 33-year-old Tampa man is in critical condition following a Thursday night crash on Interstate 75.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, Shaun Christopher Harris was heading south on a Honda motorcycle in the I-75 access road merge lane to the Lee Roy Selmon Expressway around 6:30 p.m.

At that time, a Hyundai Santa Fe driven by Melinda Sue McRae, 26, of Seffner was also heading south, ahead of Harris.

Troopers say McRae slowed for traffic ahead, but Harris failed to stop in time. His motorcycle struck the rear of the Hyundai, a highway patrol report said.

Harris, who was wearing a helmet, suffered critical injuries, the report said. He was taken to Tampa General Hospital for treatment. He was also cited with careless driving, the report noted.
