Tampa Residents Step Up to Raise $150,000 at Fight For Air Climb

The American Lung Association in Tampa raised funds for lung health education, advocacy and lifesaving research

Saturday, more than 500 people participated in the American Lung Association in Tampa’s Fight For Air Climb at the Bank of America Plaza. The event raised more than $150,000 to fund the Lung Association’s efforts to end lung disease.

This was the 18th year of the Fight For Air Climb Tampa, the premier stair-climbing event in Tampa. Participants climbed 42 flights, 914 stairs of the Bank of America Plaza to finish at the historic Tampa Bay Club.

“Once again, this event proved to be as moving as it was rewarding for all who participated, young and old alike,” said Steven Riddle, executive director for the American Lung Association in Tampa. “Thank you to all of our participants, volunteers, and sponsors who came together to help us reach our fundraising goal and to make a difference in the lives of people facing lung disease and lung cancer.”

Special highlights of the morning included remarks from Tampa Mayor Jane Castor who has personally been impacted by lung cancer and is an advocate for early lung cancer screenings. Additionally, the Gail Porter Memorial Award was awarded to Jeff Ottmann, the top fundraiser at the Fight For Air Climb. This award is given each year in memory of Gail Porter who passed away from lung cancer in 2019.
