Thanks To Bomb Squad, Children Who Can't See Will Hunt For Eggs
Bomb squad technicians used their precision skills to create Easter eggs with beepers for visually impaired children.
TAMPA, FL -- The annual hunt for Easter eggs is a perennial spring rite for children. However, not all children are able to enjoy searching for the colorful plastic eggs filled with candy.
Up until now, visually impaired children have been left out of the excitement of finding Easter eggs. But local bomb squad experts have come up with a remedy.
On Monday, March 5, members of the Tampa Bay Area Regional Bomb Squad and the International Association of Bomb Technicians and Investigators put their heads together to create an Easter egg that visually impaired children can find by following their ears.

Using the same surgical precision they use to disarm bombs, bomb squad technicians spent the afternoon wiring dozens of plastic eggs with tiny beepers so the 50 visually impaired children in the Lighthouse of Pinellas' programs can take part in an Easter egg hunt. Lighthouse of Pinellas' annual Family Picnic and Easter Egg Hunt will take place March 10 at Walsingham Park in Seminole.
Lighthouse of Pinellas President Kimberly Church was thrilled with the audible Easter eggs.

"Those children who have no sight or cannot distinguish objects will be instructed to use their hearing to find the beeping eggs," she said. "Thank you, Tampa Bomb Squad, for giving the Lighthouse kids an opportunity to participate in an Easter Egg Hunt like their sighted friends."
