Vanguard HS Baseball opens the 2020 season with a victory

The Vanguard High School Varsity Baseball team opened to 2020 with a solid 8 to 5 win vs Lake Weir. Led by timely hitting of Andrew Nichols, 2 hits and 2 RBI's the team prevailed.

Head Coach Scott Schaub sees 2020 as a promising year. There are new faces in the program with a core of returning players. Coach jobs sees strong leadership as a big plus for this team with seven senior, Class of 2020. The pitching staff looks good with strong "Up the middle" play. The team has players transferring in from other schools to go with 2019 players. Some players are returning to baseball after time away from the game.

Coach Schaub sees fundamentals as key early on and seeing the "Big Picture". Pitching seems to be ahead of hitting making preseason a good time to get hitting in. Live pitching for hitters always takes time to adjust to. Batting in the cage is not the same.

Vanguard is a 5A school. Coach Schaub enjoys being around students as a PE teacher at Legacy Elementary. Coach Schaub has been head coach for 4 yrs after being and assistant for 2 yrs. Coach Schaub sees more and more players coming to high school from travel ball after playing in very strong area rec programs.
