Teen Suspect Killed By Man In Tampa Park As He Robbed, Shot Him: Cops

A group of people targeted a man at Takomah Trail Park for a robbery, and one of the robbers ended up getting shot by the robbery victim.

TAMPA, FL — Update: A 16-year-old boy who shot a man and robbed him at Takomah Trail Park in Tampa Tuesday was shot and killed in return by the robbery victim, Tampa police said.

A group of people that included Ian D. Thomas, went to the park just before 4 p.m. with a gun and shot a 32-year-old man as they robbed him, according to investigators. The victim fired his legally-owned and properly-permitted concealed gun in return.

Thomas was hit by a bullet, and died at the park, according to officers.

The victim experienced non-life-threatening injuries. The victim, including the group of people excluding Thomas, left before police arrived. Investigators located the victim at a different location, and he cooperated with detectives, deputies said.

Detectives have begun investigating a second Tampa fatal shooting that occurred Tuesday afternoon at a park, according to authorities.

Tampa police were notified by the communications center just before 4 p.m. that a person had been shot in Takomah Trail Park, deputies said.

An unrelated earlier shooting death took place at about noon at a Tampa intersection, according to police.

The public is not in danger, cops said.
