Watch Orangutans Hunt For Eggs Friday

Tampa's Lowry Park Zoo is preparing for its annual primate Easter egg hunt.

TAMPA, FL — Tampa Bay area residents looking for a unique way to get into the spirit of spring might want to head to Lowry Park Zoo on Friday.

The zoo has announced its annual Bornean Orangutan Egg Hunt is set for 9:45 a.m., March 25.

“Zoo keepers will play Easter bunny, ‘hiding’ enrichment items throughout the outdoor habitat including hard-boiled eggs, baskets and seasonal items,” zoo spokeswoman Rachel Nelson wrote in an email to media. “At 10 a.m., the animals will be shifted outdoors to find and enjoy the tasty treats.”

The zoo hosts events like the egg hunt regularly as part of its animal enrichment programs. These programs are designed to “encourage physical and mental activity while stimulating the animals’ senses and behaviors,” Nelson said. “Whether the animals make a meal or a mess, enrichments introduce variety into the environment and provide rewards.”

For more information about the zoo, visit it online. Single day tickets are $27.95 for ages 12 and over and $20.95 for kids ages 3 to 11. Children 2 and under are free.
