TAMPA, FL — The old stereotype about cops and doughnuts extends to police horses, as well. At least that seems to be the case for the Tampa Police Department’s horses.

The fleet-footed critters have developed quite a taste for the sweet treats. It seems they especially enjoy those served hot and fresh by Krispy Kreme.

The department hasn’t tried to hide evidence of its horses’ passion for doughnuts either. The most recent incident involving a doughnut-munching police equine unfolded last week at the Krispy Kreme on North Florida Avenue. One of the agency’s official mounts was caught on camera accepting a doughnut straight out of the hands of an employee. The horse’s human partner sat and watched as “Chad” wolfed down the treat.

In the spirit of full disclosure, the police department posted the video evidence to its Facebook page. There’s no cause for concern though. The horse wasn’t accepting a sweet bribe. Instead, Chad and his human partner were taking part in a fundraiser to support Special Olympics Florida’s Hillsborough County activities.

Chad isn’t the only four-legged member of the force with an appetite for Krispy Kreme doughnuts. Last year, “Red” was caught on camera as he made very short work of a jelly doughnut during a different fundraiser for Special Olympics at the Krispy Kreme on Kennedy Boulevard.
