Watch: Police Horse Creates Scene in Krispy Kreme Drive-Through
Red just wanted to munch on a jelly doughnut.

It seems the old stereotype about cops and horses also extends to four-legged members of the force.
At least that’s the case for “Red,” one of the Tampa Police Department’s mounted patrol horses. Red made quite a scene Thursday morning when he trotted right up to the drive-through window at Krispy Kreme Tampa on Kennedy Boulevard and made short work of a jelly doughnut.

Red’s appearance didn’t startle workers, however. He was an invited guest, part of the chain’s 10th annual Cops on Donut Shops fundraiser to benefit Special Olympics Florida.
Krispy Kreme locations across Tampa Bay hosted their own events, posting officers with buckets on strings on their roofs in an effort to raise donations for the games, which take place in May at Disney’s Wide World of Sports. In exchange for donations of at least $1, participants received free doughnuts.

While Tampa Police trotted out with their mounted units, police in St. Petersburg let K9 Ajax steal their fundraising show. That four-legged crime fighter made national news recently when he saved his human partner, Officer Joe Lehmann, from an encounter with a rattlesnake. The dog took the bite and is now recovering from the injury.
The totals raised from around the Bay came in at $1,116 in South Tampa, $750 in Lakeland and $2,900 in St. Petersburg, according to Tampa police spokeswoman Janelle McGregor.
