Watch: Skateboarder Ollies Over Tampa Mayor Bob Buckhorn
Mayor Bob Buckhorn stayed quite calm during the stunt performed at the opening of the city's new Bro Bowl.
TAMPA, FL — Not every city can say its mayor is brave enough to take part in a stunt. But, then again, not every city has Bob Buckhorn as its mayor.
Well-known for defending Tampa from rowdy bands of pirates, Buckhorn recently took his bravado to a whole new level when he took part in a death defying, or at least injury risking, feat staged at Perry Harvey Sr. Park. To celebrate the official opening of Bro Bowl 2.0, Buckhorn agreed to be the object a 23-year-old skateboarder would ollie over.
Saturday’s stunt was caught on video. That video shows a rather calm Buckhorn on his back, down on the ground with what appears to be a smile on his face. As skateboarder Derick Glacy sped towards him, Buckhorn didn’t flinch. After Glacy cleared the jump, Buckhorn’s smile spread from ear to ear.

Bro Bowl 2.0 is a replica of the city’s historic skate park, built in 1978. The original skate park was torn down in 2015 with a promise from the city a replica would be made. The city made good on that promise with the skate park's opening on Saturday. The new skating attraction now sits in the 900 E. Scott St. park a bit north of its original site.
