Waterscapes Pools & Spas gives back to a cause that hits home

Waterscapes Pools & Spas (WaterScapesPools.com), southwest Florida’s largest residential and commercial pool builder and subsidiary company of Neal Communities, recently donated $1,000 to Water Smart Tots, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit dedicated to eliminating pediatric drowning in Hillsborough County.

The company, with 40-plus years of experience building residential and commercial pools, designed the pool for a Water Smart Tot’s volunteer in Fish Hawk Ranch this year. Through that process, Waterscapes executives learned more about the organization that teaches survival-swimming lessons to financially disadvantaged infants and young children ages 12 months to 6 years.

“We are so appreciative to Waterscapes Pools & Spas for a beautifully designed pool and their generous donation,” said Cammie Yick, a volunteer with the nonprofit organization. “Drowning is the leading cause of death for children ages 1 - 4 in Florida, and this contribution will provide five children with life-saving classes,” she said.

Water Smart Tots promotes drowning prevention awareness through water safety education and provides access to aquatic self-rescue swim lessons.

“In my line of work, this cause is particularly important to me,” said John Collier, president of Waterscapes Pools & Spas. “Our company is passionate about swim safety, and Water Smart Tots is providing an invaluable service to protect children and provide that extra layer of security for an infant or a young child in the event of an accidental fall into the water.”

Water Smart Tots currently has 36 applications for lessons and have awarded 25 of these children with lessons with one student graduate.
