Weather Prompts Florida Airports To Delay, Ground Flights

A ground stop was issued for all incoming flights at six Florida airports Saturday. Hundreds of flights were also canceled.

FLORIDA — Flights in and out of several Florida airports were delayed or canceled Saturday as severe weather battered much of the state's northern half.

As of 5:40 p.m. ET, three Florida airports were reporting departure delays, according to the Federal Aviation Administration, down from six earlier in the day.

Outgoing flights currently are being affected at these Florida airports:

  • Tampa International: Delays of 31-45 minutes and increasing.
  • Palm Beach International: Delays of 2.5-2.75 hours and increasing.
  • Fort Lauderdale/Hollywood International: Delays of 31-45 minutes and decreasing.

Ground stops also were implemented at the affected airports to limit the number of arriving flights. This means any flight destined for one of the six affected airports will be held at its originating airport until the ground stop is lifted.

Hundreds of outgoing and incoming flights were also canceled Saturday, according to FlightAware.com.
