Weekend Weather: What to Expect

Find out what's in store for the Tampa Bay area over the next few days.

Tampa Bay area residents ready for some weekend fun might want to keep an eye on the sky in the afternoons and early evenings.

The National Weather Service is calling for a mostly steamy weekend ahead with some chances of rain in the picture, as well. The weekend kicks off Friday with a high in the upper 80s in most parts of the region and a low down near 70.

Saturday is expected to be cooler – just slightly – with highs in the mid-80s and a low in the upper 60s. Some parts of the Bay area will see storm chances rise Saturday afternoon and into the evening hours with about a 30 percent chance of thunderstorms anticipated.

Sunday is expected to deliver a high in the mid-80s again and a low down around 70 in the overnight hours. The chance for thunderstorms rises to 50 percent in the afternoon hours in much of the region and 30 percent in the overnight hours.

Forecasters say the increased rain chances over the weekend come courtesy of a weakening cool front. In the weather service’s Hazardous Weather Outlook report, forecasters warn of the potential for some of the thunderstorms to produce “gusty winds, locally heavy rainfall and frequent deadly lightning strikes.”
