Tampa Bay area residents hoping for cooler weekend weather might have their wishes granted, but they’ll have to endure a little heat the potential for some rain first.

Columbus Day Monday kicks off the week with a high in the low 80s expected. Mostly sunny conditions are also on tap with a low around 70 in the overnight hours.

While the forecast calls for relatively mild conditions, the weather service warns that hazardous weather isn’t entirely out of the cards. Friday’s moisture combined with daytime temperatures could produce isolated thunderstorms that might be capable of kicking up strong, gusty winds, locally heavy rains and frequent, deadly lightning strikes, the agency’s Hazardous Weather Outlook report on Friday pointed out.

A cold front is expected to move through the Bay area on Saturday. That front, aside from the cooler weather, could also be responsible for producing some isolated, but potentially strong thunderstorms, the weather service noted. By Sunday, drier air is anticipated with lower chances of storm development expected through the middle of next week.
