West Ybor Barterhouse Both Stylish And Tasty

Join me and my fellow Taste Ambassador from Tampa Bay Food Tours as we sample and recap our way through some of the newest and most delicious local restaurants.

On a recent early Saturday night visit we thoroughly enjoyed our meal at Barterhouse start to finish. The stylish surroundings were comfortable and spacious.

Their effort has paid off. We want to try one of everything and know that tomorrow we will have the tastiest of leftovers.

We start the meal with a table side pour of Melted Raclette accompanied by Smoked Prosciutto, Wild Arugula, Malt Pickled Onions, Cornichons, Fingerling Potatoes.

Individually all of dishes elements have strong flavors and paired with with the warm cheese it is a lesson in flavor profiles. These are not foods we would generally pair together much less pour cheese over so this plate created an experiential tasting that we enjoyed discussing.

Candlelit table side presentation of the gooey cheese is not cheesy at all.

Several recent reviews raved about the Native Clam Dip so I was intrigued. Again this dish had a topnotch presentation. The warm house made gaufrette potato chips are the perfect vessel for the cool dip.

Native Clam Dip - Cedar Key

A solid choice for the entree was the Tamarind Lacquered Pork Shank. It was fork tender, had great texture and was well balanced. Lacquered is a good adjective for this glistening food art.

Kurobuta Pork, Kohlrabi Slaw, Roasted Peanuts, Scallions

Next we enjoyed the Blue Crab Chilau with Jumbo Lump Crab Meat, Ybor-Style Tomato Sauce, Tagliatelle Pasta.

To me the taste of this dish is pure Ybor on a plate. The flavor is reminiscent of the local beloved staple deviled crab but elevated.

With our leftovers packed up we indulge in desserts.

We were told the Skillet brownie with vanilla ice cream would take around 15 minutes and it was totally worth the wait.

Ybor is experiencing a culinary moment with several new acclaimed places that have opened recently. BARterhouse raises the BAR and exceeds expectations. We have a new reason to venture out to Ybor for a evening out.
