What’s Open, Closed On New Year’s Day 2022 In Tampa, Hillsborough

HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY, FL — While New Year’s Day is often a day to recover from the previous night's festivities, if you do plan to head out, it’s good to know how the holiday may affect the availability of services in Tampa and Hillsborough County..

New Year’s Day is one of several holidays that usually affect the hours of government offices, libraries, public transportation, garbage pickup and other services in the Tampa area.

To help you plan, here’s a roundup of what’s open and what’s closed on New Year’s Day in our area:

Hillsborough County offices and facilities: Most will be closed Friday.

County garbage collection: A normal schedule will be followed in unincorporated Hillsborough County’s Solid Waste Service Area on Friday. There will be no garbage or yard waste collection on Saturday.

Disposal sites: Open Friday and closed Saturday. Includes community collection centers, yard and wood waste processing facilities, transfer stations, the Resource Recovery Facility, and the Southeast County Landfill.

West Tampa Community Resource Center: Closed Friday and Saturday. The site will be open for COVID-19 testing and vaccinations all other days from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Conservation Parks: Open Friday and Saturday

Emergency Rental Assistance Program Call Center: Closed Friday and Saturday

Hillsborough County Customer Service Center: Closed Friday and Saturday

Hillsborough County Public Library Cooperative: All library locations will be closed through Sunday.

Hillsborough County Pet Resource Center: Closed Friday and Saturday

Hillsborough County recreation centers: Closed Friday and Saturday

County splash pads and dog parks: Open Friday and Saturday

County skate parks: Open Friday and closed Saturday

County water and wastewater service: Emergency calls can be made Saturday to 813-744-5600.

Animal Safety and Enforcement: A limited number of officers will be on call for emergencies only. Submit a request via the Animal Request button at HCFLGov.net/AtYourService.

City of Tampa offices and facilities: Closed Friday

City garbage collection: Residential collection normally scheduled for Thursday will take place Wednesday. Friday’s regularly scheduled collection will take place Thursday. Regular collection schedules resume Monday. Services for commercial customers will be unaffected by the holiday.

McKay Bay Transfer Station and Scale House: Closes at noon Friday and will remain closed through Sunday. Normal operating hours resume Monday.

Hillsborough County Public Schools: Schools reopen Tuesday following winter break.
