TAMPA, FL — A woman shot and killed her boyfriend in Tampa before driving to Alabama, where she took her own life during a traffic stop, according to a Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office news release.

Deputies responded to the 9200 block of Shellgrove Court in Tampa Thursday just before 7 a.m. after receiving a call from a concerned family member of the victim. They found the body of Kelbys Avila, 50, who had been fatally shot, at the home.

Investigators learned that Maira Pacheco Nuñez, 58, had killed her boyfriend and then drove away from the scene, the sheriff’s office said. Deputies didn't say when they believed the shooting took place.
