'Zombie' Cat Expected to Make Full Recovery

Bart was declared dead and buried, but returned to his Tampa area neighborhood five days later.

A plucky tuxedo cat with a passion for life has survived an ordeal worthy of author Stephen King’s imagination.

It seems Bart was struck by a car and suffered extensive injuries.

According to the Humane Society of Tampa Bay, Bart’s owner, who has not been identified, initially found him in pool of blood. “Heartbroken, he buried him,” the society wrote on its Facebook page.

Bart, however, wasn’t ready to give up on his eight other lives.

Five days later, Bart showed up in neighbor Dusty Albritton’s yard, Fox 13 reported on its YouTube page.

“I took him to the owner and he opened the door and he was in complete shock,” the station quoted Albritton as saying. “There’s no logical explanation.”

Despite his miraculous return, Bart needed serious medical attention so he was taken to the Humane Society for some help. He underwent surgery to repair a broken jaw and remove a damaged eye Tuesday and by all reports from the Humane Society, he came through with flying colors.

“He was a brave boy and is now resting comfortably,” the agency wrote on Facebook. “He is spending the night with our good friends at Tampa Bay Veterinary Emergency Service so he can be monitored.”

The critter, who is now being called Bart the Miracle Cat, is expected to return to the society sometime on Wednesday. He should return home in a week or so.

The Humane Society of Tampa Bay is a nonprofit organization that offers pets up for adoption as well as a variety of low-cost veterinary services. To find out more or to make a donation to help a pet like Bart, visit it online at HumaneSocietyTampa.org.
