Up To $10K In City Funding Available For Planting Trees In St. Pete

ST. PETERSBURG, FL — The city is awarding mini grants up to $10,000 to neighborhood and business associations and organizations that want to plant trees in St. Petersburg.

The program awards funds to applicants who are planning projects that beautify and enhance a St. Pete neighborhood, business area and/or the city at-large with the addition of new trees, according to a news release.

The application deadline for this new Neighborhood Tree Matching Mini-Grant Program is April 12 at 5 p.m. Application details can be found online at www.stpete.org/trees.

"Increasing tree canopy, diversifying tree species, and optimizing the locations of trees on public property continues to be a priority for the City of St. Petersburg," Allison K. Mihalich, the city's sustainability and resilience officer, said. "This new program is a way for the City to protect and grow its environment, while also involving neighbors and business owners who care about improving their surroundings."

For the past 36 years — since 1986 — the city has been awarded the Tree City USA award.
