2 Charged In Shooting Death At St. Pete Apartment Complex: Police

Two men face murder charges related to the shooting death of a man at a St. Petersburg apartment complex Friday afternoon, police said.

ST. PETERSBURG, FL — Two men face charges for the murder of a 32-year-old man at a St. Petersburg apartment complex, authorities said.

Derrick Mims was shot to death at Baypointe Preserve Apartments, 11901 4th Street N., Friday afternoon.

Officers found him lying on the pavement with a gunshot wound to the upper body, according to a St. Petersburg Police Department news release. He was pronounced dead at a local hospital.

Kevin Lassiter, 32, was charged with first-degree murder, while Troy Lassiter, Jr., 26, was charged with principal to murder in the first degree, police said.

Detectives believe the suspects knew Mims and this was not a random act. The investigation is ongoing.
