$25,000 Piece Of Art Stolen From Chihuly Collection

The artwork was discovered missing by gallery employees Monday morning.

ST. PETERSBURG, FL — The St. Petersburg Police Department is investigating the theft of a valuable piece of art swiped from the Morean Arts Center’s Chihuly Collection sometime over the weekend.

According to police, the unusual piece of glass art was noticed missing by gallery employees Monday morning. The piece, titled “Cobalt and Lavender Piccolo Venetian with Gilded Handles,” is valued between $20,000 and $25,000.

Workers at the 400 Beach Drive N.E. gallery believe the piece was stolen during public hours on Sunday.

“Detectives are reviewing hours’ worth of video to determine if the thief was recorded,” the police department wrote in an email to media.

Anyone with information about the crime or who might know the whereabouts of the missing piece is asked to call the police department at 727-893-7780. Tips may also be texted to TIP411 by texting SPPD and the tip.
