City Council members are split over whether residents, developers, or the broader tax base should shoulder the cost of aging pipes and sewer upgrades, with a final vote coming Thursday.

Developer Proposes 16-Story Mixed-Use Tower for 446 4th Street South, St. Petersburg, Florida (floridayimby.com) — A 16-story mixed-use tower with 165 apartments and ground-floor retail is headed to St. Petersburg's Development Review Commission on September 2, potentially replacing a kidney dialysis center at 446 4th Street South. The revised plan is shorter and includes fewer units than a previously approved project, but still adds parking, bike spaces, and new retail space in the downtown core.

Victor Mesa Jr. Has Found His Calling With the Rays (yardbarker.com) — Rays outfielder Victor Mesa Jr. is emerging as a key contributor just across town in St. Petersburg, where his growing power, strong arm, and speed are reshaping the team's outfield mix. After a modest debut in Miami, he's thriving with Tampa Bay, posting improved power numbers and standout defense that fit the Rays' reputation for unlocking under-the-radar talent.
   

4. Florida Supreme Court Orders Emergency Suspension of Attorney Jesse David Berkowitz Over Client Abandonment and Court Absences (alabnews.com) — A Florida Supreme Court order has immediately suspended St. Petersburg-based attorney Jesse David Berkowitz from practicing law after multiple missed hearings, client complaints, and an earlier federal bankruptcy court suspension. Local clients are being notified as he's required to stop taking new cases, withdraw from current matters, and document how he's handling any remaining client funds and files.
