St. Petersburg Fire & Rescue officials are crediting smoke alarms for saving three people from a Monday morning blaze at a home on 60th Street North.
According to the department, the fire broke out at the single-family home around 6:42 a.m. When fire crews arrived, all three of the home’s adult residents were safely outside. The fire itself was in the rear of the 1989 60th St. N. home.
Fire crews were able to extinguish the blaze rather quickly. The cause remains under investigation, officials say.

The home’s working smoke detectors enabled the residents to get out safely, Lt. Steve Lawrence wrote in an email to media.
The department wants to make sure all homes in St. Petersburg have an early warning system, Lawrence added. That’s why it offers the HomeSAFE program that provides free smoke alarms to families in need. For more information about the program, call 727-893-SAFE.
