5 Places to Take Dad For a Beer on Father's Day
Does Dad fancy himself a fan of this hoppy, age-old libation? Take him to any one of these beer-centric bars and restaurants in St. Pete and treat him right with a tall pint on Father's Day.

Is your dad one of those beer-loving types? The guy who can’t wait to go to the grocery store before the big cookout and pick just the right beer for just the right food everyone will be eating? The dad who enjoys nothing more than a frosty brew after a hot afternoon mowing the lawn? Maybe even the dad you bond with chatting over the delicious intricacies of a well-made pint of craft beer.
If so, St. Pete’s got no shortage of bars and restaurants perfectly suited for treating dad to this delicious libation on Father’s Day. Here’s some of our favorites.
1.) The Ale and the Witch

111 2nd Avenue Northeast, St. Petersburg, FL (727) 821-2533
If the old man is serious about his craft beers, there’s probably no better choice for a tall, cold one in St. Pete than the Ale and the Witch. Opened earlier this year, the Ale and the Witch has quickly risen to the top as one of the Bay Area’s top bars for delicious and not-so-easy-to-find craft beers. There are more than 32 taps at the Witch and, the cool thing is, once a tap runs out, it’s replaced with a completely new beer. If Dad isn’t a much of a beer-o-phile as you, treat him to a Witch Flight where he can sample 4 different beers from the menu and take a handy dandy card describing them all home with him when he’s done.

2.) The Independent
29 3rd Street North, St. Petersburg, FL (727) 820-9514
Whoever thinks beer drinking can’t be a contemporary, sumptuous experience probably hasn’t been to the Independent in Downtown St. Pete yet. Walk in, and you’re greeted with a dark, open space lined with long, German biergarten-style tables and an opulent bar in the back. The beer list is small, but intriguing. Choose from a variety of around 10 beers from Trappiste Rochefort 8 served in a traditional goblet to the always original Delerium Tremens with tasty hints of fruit and wheat.
3.) The Rex Bar
2061 Central Avenue, St. Petersburg, FL (727) 822-2337
Unpretentious, a little unassuming and well-versed in simple, delicious beers, The Rex Bar is a perfect after-dinner joint for you and dad to stop by in Downtown St. Pete. The place prides itself on highlighting American craft breweries poured through any one of their 20 taps behind the bar. Seasonal selections are also available offering some great variety from which to choose. Enjoy a warm summer night out on the patio with Dad or sit inside and check out the big game on the TV while sipping on a pint of a new or favorite brew.
4.) Old Northeast Tavern
201 7th Avenue North St. Petersburg, FL (727) 821-8070
If you want to knock out dinner and get a delicious beer fix all in one, Old Northeast Tavern will definitely hit the spot. Boasting 22 beers on tap from an intriguingly bitter Lagunitas IPA to the light, and perfect for summer Magic Hat Number 9, Old Northeast definitely knows what they’re doing when it comes to serving the beer lovers.
The food, well, it’s almost criminal how affordable it is and for how delicious it tastes. Their beer cheese soup ($6.95) is, naturally, a perfect appetizer to go with dad’s brew and menu items like thin, stone-roasted pizzas ($9.95), and monstrous, inventive sandwiches ($7.95-$8.95) are perfect hand-in-hand with a glass of rich, delicious ale.
5.) World of Beer
5226 4th Street North, St. Petersburg, FL (727) 525-4589
Yeah, World of Beer’s a chain, but nothing is sacrificed when it comes to devotion and love for great beers from around the globe. The taps are there, definitely, but the highlight of World of Beer has to be their wall-to-wall selection of over 500 bottled beers from 40 different countries. We’ll go out on a limb here and say World of Beer is probably the only place you can sit down and enjoy a beer from Ethopia (Bedele Special) and Delaware (Dogfish Head) in the same sitting. If you and Dad pride yourselves on trying new things, the World of Beer is the place to be. Plus, it’s a stone’s throw from a number of great, 4th Street restaurants like Red Mesa, Bonefish Grill, and Hiro’s Tokyo Steakhouse.
