ST. PETERSBURG, FL — Carl Lester Byrd, 77, has been found safe and was reunited with his family members on Monday in St. Petersburg, deputies said.

A 77-year-old St. Petersburg man who lives with memory issues is missing after he left a family member's residence on Sunday night, Pinellas County Sheriff's Office said.

Law enforcement officials issued a silver alert for Carl Lester Byrd on Monday.

Investigators said on Sunday before 10:30 p.m., Byrd left a family member's home in the 4200 block of 18th Street North in his 2016 red Dodge Journey SUV with Florida tag number Z4LYB.

According to deputies, Byrd called his wife a few hours later at 1:30 a.m. Monday, and said he was driving home on Interstate-275 in heavy construction.

Detectives described Byrd as a Black man with an amputated left leg. Byrd is 5-feet-8, 140 lbs. with gray hair and brown eyes.

Byrd has a cell phone and may be in Sarasota County, said authorities.

Anyone with information on Byrd's whereabouts is asked to contact local law enforcement immediately.
