8-Year-Old Remains Critical Following Accident On 16th Street S.

ST. PETERSBURG, FL — An 8-year-old girl remains in critical condition at John Hopkins All Children's Hospital after being struck by a car Wednesday night.

According to St. Petersburg Police, the girl was in the median lane on 16th Street South near 9th Avenue South with a group of other children who were attempting to cross the road when she was struck by a Ford van driven by Harlan Smith, 60.

Smith cooperated with investigators. Alcohol was not a factor in the accident.
