FL Mother's Day Forecast: Thunderstorms Expected In Some Areas

While parts of FL can expect sunny skies over Mother's Day weekend, other areas can expect showers, thunderstorms and winds, NWS said.

Good news for those in central and southern parts of the state planning a day at the beach or park with family for Mother’s Day: mostly sunny and warm temperatures are expected over the weekend, forecasters with the National Weather Service said.

However, those in northern Florida should plan for indoor activities with mom as showers are likely over much of the weekend, NWS said.

In the Tampa Bay area, Friday will start with some patchy fog before becoming mostly sunny with a high temperature of 92 degrees and a heat index value as high as 98.

Saturday will be mostly sunny with some light winds with gusts as high as 18 mph as the day goes on, the NWS Tampa office said. A high of 92 is expected.

Sunday will be partly sunny with a high near 91 and light winds that calm by the evening.

Further south, Friday is forecast to be sunny with a high near 90, the NWS Miami office said.

Saturday is expected to be mostly sunny with a high of 90 and light winds, while Sunday will be partly sunny with a high of 89, forecasters said.

There’s a 30 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms after 4 p.m. on Friday in the Orlando area, the NWS said. Otherwise, the day will be partly sunny with a high near 92 and light winds.

There’s a 20 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms after 2 p.m. in the region on Saturday, with otherwise partly sunny skies and a high near 94, forecasters said. Light winds in the morning will pick up by the afternoon and wind gusts could reach as high as 20 mph.

On Mother’s Day, there’s a 30 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms after 2 p.m. in the Orlando area, the NWS said. Partly sunny skies are expected throughout the day with a high of 93 and light winds.

Northeast Florida can expect mostly cloudy skies with a high near 85 on Friday, the NWS in Jacksonville said. Light winds will increase as the day goes on, with gusts as high as 16 mph.

On Saturday, there’s an 80 percent chance of showers throughout most of the day with an increased likelihood of thunderstorms after 11 a.m., forecasters said. Temperatures will hit a high near 86 degrees with light winds in the morning.

Mother’s Day will be mostly cloudy with a 70 percent chance of showers and possibly a thunderstorm, and a high near 86.

The Panhandle can expect a cloudy and rainy weekend, the NWS Mobile/Pensacola office said.

There’s a 40 percent chance of rain Friday with a slight chance of showers and thunderstorms starting at 10 a.m. and increasing throughout the rest of the day, forecasters said. Mostly cloudy skies and a high near 76 are expected.

The chance of rain jumps to 90 percent on Saturday as showers and possible thunderstorms are expected, the NWS said. Light winds in the morning could reach as high as 20 mph by the afternoon. The area will see a high near 79 degrees.

Families in the Panhandle will contend with a rainy Mother’s Day on Sunday with a 70 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms, the agency said. Partly sunny skies, winds from 5 to 15 mph, and a high near 83 degrees are forecast for the day.
