Bar Milo Debuts Dubstep Dance Night

ST. PETERSBURG – U.K.-influenced dubstep electronic dance music is taking downtown by storm. Bar Milo is the latest spot to introduce a dubstep night.

BASS FACE will take place on Thursday nights, and if this week's debut is any indication Bar Milo will be packed with dubstep devotees.

BASS FACE is capitalized, as if someone were shouting out the name above the din of the syncopated music. BASS does not so much refer to the fish as to the pulsating rhythms that define dubstep.

Or does it? One has to wonder after seeing the gasping fans on the dance floor after a night of dubstepping; they look a little like fish out of water sucking air.

BASS FACE was added to Bar Milo on Thursdays, afer Fubar has had unwavering success with TurboTuesday. Demand to hear top-notch dubstep producers perform has led to more nights sprouting up throughout downtown.

The crowd started to file into Bar Milo around 10 p.m., and the dance floor started to heat up. Hosts DJ Clayton, The Event and Kid Cassette took turns rocking the turntables until 3 a.m.

Bar Milo sits at the base of the Coronet 300, on the corner of Central Avenue and 3rd Street, with a large glass front window to display the DJ booth so the casual passerby can catch a glimpse of musical adventures inside.

BASS FACE offers a full spectrum of drink specials, everything from Honeybee Martinis to Ace Perry Cider. Fine wines, along with champagne, were chilled on ice on the bar for customers to choose from if they so desired.

With Dubstep still on the rise in America, BASS FACE only looks to grow as more devotees turn on to the sound.
