The recovery was the result of a multi-day search that was launched Wednesday evening after reports came in about a man who went swimming and never surfaced again from the water.
According to the St. Petersburg Police Department, authorities aren’t saying for sure if the body and the missing man are one in the same. The determination is awaiting positive identification.

Wednesday’s incident began to unfold just before 8 p.m. when police received a call that a man went into a retention pond near the Save-A-Lot Store and never came out. A friend of the man told police the man was intoxicated and said he was going swimming. With that in mind, he took off some of his clothing and left the garments and his identification on the pond’s bank.
Divers began searching Wednesday evening and returned again Thursday to look for the man. The recovery wasn’t made until Friday.
