Let's Go Racing at the Showtime Speedway

This is stock car racing up close and personal.

In 2004 the Sunshine Speedway in Pinellas Park was sold to the State to provide land for an interstate feeder road, which was never built. The Sunshine Speedway was a fixture in Pinellas County for decades. With the exception of a drag strip the property had set mostly unused since 2004.

With some help from State Senator Jack Latvala, the State decided to lease the property for the purpose of reopening the speedway.

Danielle and Bob Yoho, owners of a local automotive business, won the lease bid and after some struggles have the track reopened as the Showtime Speedway.

The track opened in July with races running every weekend. Still in the development stages, the Yoho's are rebuilding the track from their own pockets with the help of a lot of local businesses.

All across the South and in many other parts of the country small racetracks like Showtime Speedway host various racing events. These are family events with lots of kids, food and fun. Showtime Speedway fits right in.

I decided to make a visit to the track this weekend and a photo essay is attached.

Race classes include: Super Late Models, Pro-8, Street Stock, Street Stock-8, Mini Stock, and Kids. This weekend there were 102 cars entered to race.

If you like NASCAR you'll really enjoy a visit to Showtime Speedway. These tracks are where it all started.  Check the Showtime Speedway website for dates and ticket prices, and if you go wear some comfortable clothes be sure to get some ear plugs, especially for the kids, because this is stock car racing up close and personal.
