Car Crashes Into Home, Ending Police Chase

The driver now faces a number of criminal charges.

ST. PETERSBURG, FL – A 20-year-old man faces a number of criminal charges after an early Wednesday morning chase with a St. Petersburg police officers ended with his vehicle crashing into a home on 22nd Street South.

Officers were in the area investigating a possible brawl reported at 2321 13th Ave. S., the location of a Tuesday homicide. As officers were looking into the incident, they heard “a barrage of gun shots coming from the area where the homicide occurred and saw several vehicles leaving the area at a high rate of speed,” an email from the agency said.

Officers were given a go-ahead to pursue one of the vehicles, a 2006 green Volvo. They followed the car south on 22nd Street, but after it crossed through the 18th Avenue South intersection, its driver lost control, the email said.

The Volvo ended up striking several cars and a home in the 1900 block of 22nd Street South.

Sha’Kur D’Shay Weaver, the driver of the car, was taken into custody and transported to Bayfront Hospital with minor injuries.

“Weaver was very uncooperative and no firearm was located in the car,” the email said.

Weaver does, however, face aggravated fleeing and eluding, driving on a suspended license and felony possession of marijuana charges, the agency noted.
