CareFest St. Pete Set for Saturday

An estimated 1,500 volunteers are expected for the annual event.

St. Petersburg residents plan to roll up their sleeves Saturday and get dirty for a good cause as the annual CareFest gets under way.

This year’s event focuses on 77 projects throughout the city and is expected to pull in more than 1,500 volunteers, according to an email from the city. Sponsored by the May Wealth Management Group, the event kicks off at 7:30 a.m. at Lake Vista Park, 1401 62nd Ave. S. with a group captain check-in. Work on the projects begins at 8 and continues until noon when volunteers will head back to the park for lunch, entertainment and recognition.

Mayor Rick Kriseman and organizers of the event will wrap everything up by presenting certificates to all the groups who participated.

St. Petersburg has won the “City of Compassion” Care Cup trophy for six years in a row for having the most volunteers among participating bay area communities.

“We could not enjoy the huge success of CareFest St. Pete without the collaborative effort that brings together our neighborhood and community-based groups, houses of worship, corporate teams, school clubs, businesses and individuals,” Kriseman was quoted in the email as saying.
