Driver Arrested For DUI After Hitting 2 Pedestrians In St. Pete

A Ruskin man has been arrested for driving under the influence after striking two pedestrians with his Jeep on 1st Avenue North.

ST. PETERSBURG, FL -- A Ruskin man has been arrested for driving under the influence after striking two pedestrians with his Jeep on 1st Avenue North.

According to the St. Petersburg Police, at 11:30 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 15, Cameron Ray Baxley, 25, was driving his Jeep Wrangler north on 3rd Street North and turned west on 1st Avenue North just as two pedestrians, Malcolme Sydney John Tunstall, 25, of St. Petersburg and Alexis Michele Scognamiglio, 23, of St. Petersburg were crossing 1st Avenue North in a marked crosswalk.

Baxley struck both pedestrians then fled the scene. He was stopped by St. Petersburg Police several blocks away and was arrested and charged with DUI with serious bodily injury.

Tunstall was transported to Bayfront Health St. Petersburg with life-threatening injuries. Scognamiglio was taken to the hospital with minor injuries.
