Driver Crashes, Dies After High-Speed Chase: FL Highway Patrol
A driver died after leading officers on a high-speed chase and crashing his car in St. Petersburg, Florida Highway Patrol said.
ST. PETERSBURG, FL — A driver who led deputies on an early Monday morning chase died after crashing his car, according to a Florida Highway Patrol news release.
When Pinellas County deputies tried to pull the car over for a tint violation around 3 a.m., the driver sped off and deputies called in state troopers to help.
The suspect, a 30-year-old Seminole man, was spotted speeding and driving recklessly near Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Street N. and 7th Avenue N.

A trooper tried to overtake the suspect, who sped off again and deactivated the car’s lights, FHP said. Deputies also deployed spike strips, but they didn’t stop the suspect, who kept driving.
The trooper lost sight of the car but later found it after it had crashed at 16th Street S. and 7th Avenue N. around 3:15 a.m.

The suspect suffered fatal injuries at the crash site.
