Omar Lewis, 24, was charged with reckless driving after being spotted driving between 140 to 150 miles per hour, “grossly over the speed limit,” while traveling south near the north rest area of the bridge in Pinellas County just before 3 a.m., FHP said.

He was speeding in a posted 65 mile per hour zone while crossing the bridge.

Troopers overtook Lewis’ car, which changed lanes and went around other drivers, including a fuel tanker truck, “with no regard for their safety,” the agency said.

Lewis was pulled over on the south side of the bridge. He had two adult passengers in his car and told troopers that “he was trying to get them home for work in the morning.”
