Reminder: DUI Wolfpack Set To Roam Pinellas County
Pinellas County motorists with big party plans for the long Memorial Day weekend may want to designate drivers.

PINELLAS COUNTY, FL — Motorists who travel the roads of Pinellas County may want to think long and hard before getting behind the wheel impaired over the long Memorial Day weekend.
The Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office and a number of other law enforcement agencies have announced plans for a DUI Wolfpack Operation. The enhanced enforcement is expected to kick off around 7 p.m. on Friday, May 27. Law enforcement will be on the prowl for impaired drivers until about 5 a.m. Saturday.
Just what roads the pack will focus on hasn’t been announced. The sheriff’s office, however, did say it has plenty of partners in the venture, including the Florida Highway Patrol, G4S Prisoner Transportation and the St. Petersburg, Clearwater, Tarpon Springs, Indian Shores, Gulfport and Kenneth City police departments.

“This operation is part of the Pinellas County Sheriff's ongoing commitment to reduce deaths, injuries, and property damage associated with traffic crashes related to impaired driving.,” the agency wrote in an email to media. “The goal of the Wolf Pack is to educate people and create public awareness about the dangers of operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of alcohol and any chemical or controlled substances.”
While the wolf pack detail ends Saturday morning, motorists can count on law enforcement throughout the Tampa Bay area being out in force throughout the holiday weekend. Those who travel into nearby Sarasota and Manatee counties will also find a similar operation taking place on Friday night.

While designating a driver or making other advanced plans to avoid impaired driving are always recommended, AAA is also offering help over the long holiday weekend to keep the roads safe. The company and Bud Light have teamed up to provide safe rides home for impaired drivers – and their vehicles – starting Friday night. The Tow 2 Go service will be available through Tuesday morning.
