FC Tampa Bay to Call Al Lang Field Home

St. Petersburg Mayor Bill Foster will hold a press conference Wednesday at the downtown ball field to make the announcement official.

ST. PETERSBURG - FC Tampa Bay - a two-year-old professional soccer team -- may need to change its name to FC St. Pete.

St. Petersburg Mayor Bill Foster will formally announce Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. that the professional soccer franchise has a new home: Al Lang Field.

The team is starting its second season competing in the Division 2 League.

Team managers had acknowledged in recent press reports that they were considering Al Lang Field and other venues.

The young team played its first season at Steinbrenner Field in Tampa. St. Petersburg, with its waterfront ball park and smaller-town feel, may be a better fit for the Division 2 team.

Games will be played on Saturday nights, which should help attendance.
