Formula E Racing Eyes St. Pete As Host City For 2023 Event: Report
A motorsports publication reports that Formula E racing is considering moving its only U.S. event from New York City to St. Pete next year.

ST. PETERSBURG, FL — As Formula E, a single-seater motorsport championship for electric cars, potentially looks for a new home for its only race in the United States, St. Petersburg could replace New York City as the event’s host city, according to The Race.
Formula E racing is eyeing St. Petersburg’s IndyCar Series 1.8-mile street course for next year’s race, which would take place in March, according to the digital news outlet.
Race organizers have held the event in Brooklyn for the past five seasons. The race’s infrastructure in Red Hook is in jeopardy, though, as the cruise industry expands in the borough, The Race reported.

Jamie Reigle, Formula E CEO, said that St. Pete is among the top cities considered for the 2023 event, noting the advantage of sharing a venue in a city that already hosts other racing organizations.
“We’re pretty open minded. I mean, obviously, Miami with the F1, Baku, Singapore, St Pete, Toronto, there’s a lot (of options) and we’re definitely looking at a whole host of those,” he said.

If the plan moves forward, St. Petersburg would host back-to-back racing events in 2023, as the annual Grand Prix race is also scheduled in March.
