Four Teen Boys In St. Pete Crash, 2 Critically Injured: Police

A car hydroplaned into a tree after an unlicensed teen driver drove recklessly, St. Petersburg police said.

ST. PETERSBURG, FL — Four teenagers were injured in a St. Petersburg crash after the car they were in hydroplaned into a tree on Tuesday night because one of the unlicensed teen's drove recklessly, the St. Petersburg Police Department said.

Investigators said the 16-year-old driver sped a 2003 Mazda before 11 p.m. on 26th Avenue North when it hit the south curb near the St. Petersburg Brush Collection/Recycling site located at 7750 26th Ave N, and then collided into a tree.

Detectives said the driver was extricated from the car by St. Pete Fire Rescue, and was treated at a local hospital where he was last listed in critical condition.

Another teenage boy in the car was treated at a local hospital for critical injuries, according to authorities.

Two other boys in the car experienced minor injuries and were taken to local hospitals by their family members.

Police said none of the teens in the car had a license, and they ranged between 16 and 17 years of age.

The St. Petersburg Police Department and Patch will not release the name of the victims because they are minors and also in accordance with Marsy's Law.
