Five Bucks Drinkery is new to Central Avenue, but its menu of cheap food and drinks -- including 17 varieties of Haute Dogs -- is irresistible to a lot of customers.

Five Bucks Drinkery, at 247 Central Ave., hews to that theme, and adds a big helping of fun foods to eat that hearken back to childhood, from the corn dogs to Mom's Mac n' Cheese.
The place makes an affordable date night, if you and your spouse or partner want to go out without spending a lot of cash.

The place is super casual; it has eight flat screen TVs and dartboards in the covered breezeway. The food menu has an array of appetizers, burgers and sandwiches. There are 17 varieties of specialty hot dogs, called Haute Dogs.
For carb-lovers, there are loaded French fries and Tater tots, which are topped with a variety of sauces: barbecue buffalo, melted cheese, ranch. You get the idea.

Likewise, the desserts are anything but scarce, with such items as Fried Pecan Pie and Fried Snickers Bar.
The Fryalator gets a lot of action at this joint, with Fried Pickles another menu item.
The lesson at Five Bucks Drinkery seems to be: Just about any food tastes better wrapped in fried dough.
Clearly Five Bucks Drinkery is not the spot for anyone on the Weight Watchers Plan or with a heart condition. Although some of the food choices seem borrowed from the Kids' Menu, with an unhealthy adult twist, the items are tasty and cheap.
Five Bucks Drinkery promotes what it describes as the Kitchen Sink Challenge. This hardy meal consists of bacon-wrapped chili cheese dogs served over tater tots and fries, smothered in cheese, and topped with jalapeno slices, onions and sour cream. It's served in a kitchen sink.
Diners who order, consume everything in the trough, and keep it down win a T-shirt. Now that's an achievement.
