Gateway Beall's Closed Following Fatal Crash Into Building

ST. PETERSBURG, FL — St. Petersburg police are investigating a fatal crash into the back of the Beall's department store at 7899 Martin Luther King St. N.

At 2:16 p.m. Saturday, a Dodge Caravan minivan driven was traveling west on 79th Terrace North at a high rate of speed. For an unknown reason, the driver lost control and drove through the rear parking lot at the Gateway Market Center into the rear wall of Beall's. The driver was the only person in the van. He died at the scene. No one was injured inside the store.

The store was closed due to the damage.
