Whiz Kid: Gibbs' Alexander McGreevy
Alexander McGreevy lands a professional role in the production of 'Lourdes of the Flies,' written by William Leavengood.

Congratulations to the August Patch Kid: Alexander McGreevy
School: Gibbs High School, Pinellas County Center for the Arts (PCCA).
Accomplishment: Alexander McGreevy will perform in the theater production of "Lourdes of the Flies," written by William Leavengood. The play will run at the Palladium Theater on consecutive weekends, Aug. 19 to Sept. 4.
Alexander McGreevy is a smart, funny and creative kid with a demeanor that makes him seem older, wiser and more professional than you'd expect for a 15-year-old.
McGreevy will play Billy Tweetwhistle in "Lourdes of the Flies," a theater production written by award-winning playwright, William Leavengood.
"My dad texted me about the audition. They were basically looking for someone like me," said McGreevy.
"He saw it as the opportunity to do something professional outside of school. And I see it that way. It's a great opportunity."
McGreevy is new to the field and getting attention for his acting abilities.
Before winning the part in "Lourdes of the Flies,'' McGreevy performed in "Night of the Living Dead" (Jobsite Theater), various senior projects (PCAA), and "The Dogfather" (a student film from the camp).
His acting focus has grown from a childhood interest inspired by his father, Michael McGreevy, who recently performed in "The Taming of the Shrew" at Jobsite Theater.
After watching a show at PCCA last year, McGreevy wanted to pursue acting as a career.
This will be his second year as a performance theater major at PCCA. He takes his academics seriously and earned a 4.0 GPA last year.
"I try to be the best I can be," said McGreevy.
McGreevy's talent extends to other fields, including music and cooking.
He plays saxophone, a skill he learned from Baypoint Middle School's Band Director Troy White.
He loves to cook and watches television food channels for inspiration. He wants to combine a cooking career with his acting aspirations.
"I realize that acting may not be the most reliable career. I've always cooked and enjoy it," said McGreevy.
McGreevy is excited about his professional role and the upcoming shows with his "Lourdes of the Flies" cast members.
"Everyone here is very talented. They're fun to work with and generally cool people," said McGreevy.
