"Hannah's Kids" Grab Two Game Lead In North Shore Softball

With eight games remaining in the TQC’s IntraClub pennant race even a small winning streak could result in a run for the championship. Hannah’s Kids demonstrated what could happen by winning their third straight game during the week of February 26 by winning two games to slide into a two game lead. The competitive season ends March 30. The 28 day February calender has already placed one of the scheduled March games in the history book.

"Hannah's Kids" rocked "Kutchinski's Kids" behind the pitching of Kaz Gora 10-3, Tuesday, February 28, at North Shore Park. Gora was supported by hefty hitting from Darwin Shiflett and Dennis Kuvalanka and 3/3 performances by Joe Hannah and Gus Tjerino. Captain "Cubbie" Kutchinski's single, double, and triple netted only three runs for "Kutchinski’s Kids.”

In second-game action, “Ewalds’ Kubs” went down to a 12-9 defeat despite a furious rally in their last at-bat. Larry Webster’s 4/4 performance included a double. Captain Walt Ewald tripled, but without support from the lower half of the line-up, it was difficult to generate much offensive support.

As outside temperatured rose during the week “Hannah’s Kids” stayed hot."Ewald's Kubs” led 9-6 after three innings, but "“Hannah’s Kids”" exploded with 13 runs over the last four innings pounding home seven of those runs in the top of the seventh inning. All of “Hannah’s Kids” got a hit in the comeback victory.

Dennis Kuvalanka's two three-baggers and Will Michaels' pair of doubles led the offensive show for the winners. “Hannah’s Kids”" blew open a close 12-12 game in the top of the seventh inning with seven runs to end the game with a 19-12 victory.

In second game action Doug Ryder hit a game-winning walk-off single for "Norton's Kits," topping off a 3/4 batting performance that plated 2-rbi at North Shore Park, March 2,2023. Larry McCurdy and Pierre Goiran posted three hits each as "Norton's Kits" rallied late to win in the last half of the 7th. The victory enabled the Kits to remain two games behind the Kids in the standings.

Captain Cubbie Kutchinski singled, doubled, and tripled for “Kutchinski’s Kids”. Frank Harrell contributed his 8th triple to the Kat's offensive effort.
